The election and the crime wave are on everybody’s minds but there’s something else that’s catching those headliners up.  What’s the buzz about?  Well, its called “Gippie’s Kingdom,” the Bahamas’ first televised soap opera. Writer and Director Ian Strachan says he hopes “Gippie’s” aspires to do for TV what the “Ferguson’s of Farm Road” did for Bahamian radio. And now producers of the show are announcing yet another corporate sponsor has come on board, Superclub Breezes.

SuperClub Breezes has agreed to host the world premiere of Gippie’s Kingdom.  The premiere is tentatively set for this June.  The internationally renowned resort is also giving one lucky television viewer a free two night stay at the resort. Sales Manager at the resort, Mrs. Hedda Smith says “Breezes decided to partner with the Gippie’s Kingdom, because this is obviously the first of its kind.  We figured this would be a great opportunity to address some of the problems we experience in society, in the family, etc.  We’ve always been involved in the community and so we are very happy to be a part of this project.”

We’re extremely excited. We believe that this show is going to be the topic of conversation in the majority of Bahamian households.  It will be talked about around the water cooler, and around the photocopier at work. We believe that once Gippies Kingdom hits the airwaves, its going to become a Bahamian institution.  We commend Breezes for having the vision to get on board early.” The 8 part series tells the story of three generations of the Gibson family.  Life experiences and social issues, common to all Bahamians, are explored in each episode: sweethearting and “illegitimate children,” juvenile delinquency, crime and justice, domestic violence, Haitian Bahamian conflict, and most of all, the power of love.

The programme is slated to run every Wednesday and Sunday night on ZNS TV13. Twenty-five year old Travon Patton, Director of Photgraphy, Editor and Co-Producer of the TV series, says Bahamians can expect a high quality programme that offers romance, suspense, comedy, and melodrama.  “Soap fans won’t be disappointed.    You’ll fall in love with these characters.  They’re funny, crazy, brave, tough, vulnerable, stubborn, humble, proud, and conniving.  It’s all here.”
